Fredericksburg police have confirmed reports of a derailed train in downtown Fredericksburg, near the city’s train station.
A total of seven cars are off the rails. We don’t know if anyone has been injured.

There has been a train derailment in the area of 400 block Cobblestone Drive. Seven cars derailed and struck a structure behind Cobblestone. No hazardous materials were on board and so far, there are no known injuries. There is no threat to the general public. Police and fire are on scene and we are asking the public to please avoid the area at this time. We will provide another update once the scene is clear.
CSX Railroad uses and owns the line, which operates freight trains. Amtrak also operates service on the line. We’re working to learn more about injuries and how service might be affected.
